Why do they do that?

  • Today's weather in the evening
Frankly, I don't see much point in watching the weather. I mean, it's often wrong. But why do they bother telling us (in the evening) what the weather was like earlier in the day? I mean, it's not like anything can be done about it at that stage!
  • No area code on business phone number!
A phenomena I see in Dublin alot are businesses who don't bother with putting their area code in front of their phone numbers. I mean, do they NOT want business from outside their areas? Do they think everyone will KNOW the area code? What is that?

Define success on your terms

Do you know what "success" means to YOU? Yes, we all know what the media portrayal is: for women it's being a size 8, climbing the corporate ladder, maintaining a perfect house, spending lots of quality time with her children, keeping her husband happy, but also being completely up to date fashion wise. For men, it seems to be: be great at sport, have a woman on your arm that makes other men drool with envy, be top dog at work but do it all while being ostensibly very modest and droning the usual "I had a great team behind (way behind..) me" platitudes.

Wake up! the time is now

Today is a beautiful day in Connemara (west Galway - Ireland) and so I'm asking myself what am I doing here...blogging? I watched a beautiful, never to be repeated sunset last night as well...and thought I could be dead next week...and let's continue on that cheerful note!

Wake up, don't eat!

Over the past few months I have been working on changing my eating habits, more particularly working to change my default eating habits...if that makes sense. I've always loathed the idea of diets and calorie counting...and the diet bores that fill the canteens of this country. You know the ones.."ooh, I ate a mars bar yesterday. I'm so BADDDD!" Usually from a woman who could fit neatly into her own handbag. Get over it, lady!

Happy Easter...legally

Hi Folks

In these days of political correctness I came across this rather delightful example of a greeting. I know it's for Christmas...but could be successfully adapted for Easter!

GREETINGS AND BEST WISHES FROM A LAW FIRM

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

Making peace with your work situation

Last week we saw the most extraordinary thing: Ian Paisley (who has been a major hate figure in our house since I was a child) sitting down with Gerry Adams....and promptly getting together to tell Peter Hain to bugger off back to Westminister (albeit in more polite terms)...it seems almost unbelievable to me.
