Do you know what "success" means to YOU? Yes, we all know what the media portrayal is: for women it's being a size 8, climbing the corporate ladder, maintaining a perfect house, spending lots of quality time with her children, keeping her husband happy, but also being completely up to date fashion wise. For men, it seems to be: be great at sport, have a woman on your arm that makes other men drool with envy, be top dog at work but do it all while being ostensibly very modest and droning the usual "I had a great team behind (way behind..) me" platitudes.

Today is a beautiful day in Connemara (west Galway - Ireland) and so I'm asking myself what am I doing here...blogging? I watched a beautiful, never to be repeated sunset last night as well...and thought I could be dead next week...and let's continue on that cheerful note!

Over the past few months I have been working on changing my eating habits, more particularly working to change my default eating habits...if that makes sense. I've always loathed the idea of diets and calorie counting...and the diet bores that fill the canteens of this country. You know the ones.."ooh, I ate a mars bar yesterday. I'm so BADDDD!" Usually from a woman who could fit neatly into her own handbag. Get over it, lady!

Last week we saw the most extraordinary thing: Ian Paisley (who has been a major hate figure in our house since I was a child) sitting down with Gerry Adams....and promptly getting together to tell Peter Hain to bugger off back to Westminister (albeit in more polite terms)...it seems almost unbelievable to me.
